Are Black Silhouette Targets A Thing Of The Past?

There are people out there that think they should be. A group called No More Black Targets is behind the effort. They feel that it is both irresponsible and wrong to continue allowing gun enthusiasts and those who are just learning to shoot to constantly fire at black figures. They seek to replace the traditional black targets multi-colored targets that feature artsy designs.

According to uproxx.com, NMBT isn’t asking that all dark colors be taken away. They just want silhouettes that feel less reminiscent of African-American males. They cite an academic study published by University of Illinois that drew together findings from 42 different studies on trigger bias to examine whether race affects how likely a target is to be shot. The research found two main things: First, people were quicker to shoot black targets with a gun, relative to white targets with a gun. And … people were more “trigger-happy” when shooting black targets compared to shooting white targets. Or in other words shooting black targets is racist.

Personally, I think these people are barking up the wrong tree. I do not see any gun range trading in their black silhouettes for hippie peace targets.
